Corporate Business Lawyer : Corporate Law Defense Attorney

Depending upon your specific legal situation, you may need a business litigator, or a transactional lawyer specializing in disputes related to contracts and corporate matters. If you are being subjected to litigation, you need to hire a business lawyer or a business litigator. If you need to formulate a set of documents (contracts, agreements, etc.), you need to retain a lawyer that specializes in business transactions.

Considering the wide-ranging legal requirements (as outlined above) that a business has to remain in full compliance with, it is highly advisable to have an ongoing relationship with a good corporate lawyer. If you are facing litigation, however, you are better off having your business represented by one or more experienced corporate lawyers that are well versed in the applicable branch of corporate/business law. Here are a few things you may want to consider before hiring a corporate lawyer:

  • Check out prospective corporate lawyers' credentials, experience, and track record,
  • Discuss your case with the prospective corporate lawyer, and listen to his/her take on your legal situation,
  • Ask for and check out references from former clients,
  • Check out their list of clients to see if their recent client list includes businesses that are similar to yours,
  • Verify that the prospective attorney is duly licensed busness/corporate lawyer , in good standing with the local bar association,
  • Conduct a background search using online tools (search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, etc.) as well as local newspaper archives at your local law library,
  • Ask for a copy of his/her retainer agreement, and carefully review it. Ask questions if you are not clear about something,
  • Clearly understand/document all fees (as well as any other charges) that you will be held responsible for,
  • Finally, retain a business lawyer that is not only duly licensed, experienced, knowledgeable, and reputable, but also easily approachable.
