Need to register or enforce your copyrights? Consider retaining an experienced copyrights lawyer who can help you with copyright application filing, copyright searching, registering your copyright with USPTO, and then works closely with you for the ongoing enforcement of your copyrights.

Enforcement of copyrights (or disputes thereof) usually requires a close examination of issues such as ownership, authorship, originality, the question of who owns intellectual property rights on the disputed work of art, the issue of fair use of any copyrighted material, and examination of whether or not the copyright dispute involves an article that can be considered to be in public domain. The digital age has brought with it an unprecedented level of piracy, plagiarism, circumvention, bootlegging, and copyright infringement.

As entities such as The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) aggressively battle against new technologies/challenges such as DeCSS (a decryption program that circumvents the DVD-protection algorithm called CSS), the copyright litigation at an all-time high. In a recent ruling on this matter, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan compared the DeCSS utility to a "common-source outbreak epidemic," and stated "there is little room for doubting that broad dissemination of DeCSS threatens ultimately to injure or destroy plaintiffs' ability to distribute their copyrighted products on DVDs, and, for that matter, undermine their ability to sell their products to the home video market in other forms." The Electronic Frontier Foundation (which has paid for the legal defense of 2600 hacker-zine publisher Emmanuel Goldstein) is to appeal the ruling.

In response to the increased demand, many legal professionals are now offering specialized services in the areas such as Music copyright law, Software copyright law, Internet copyright law, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Intellectual Property law, International copyright law, Photography copyright law, Intellectual property rights law, Trademark law, Lanham act, and Trade secret laws.

Considering the above complexities, it is advisable to retain an experienced, well-qualified, and a duly licensed copyright lawyer when it comes to securing or protecting/enforcing your intellectual property rights on your original work of art.
