If you need help with your defense lawyer search, let us help you with helpful information on finding a competent, licensed, and a knowledgeable lawyer that is well-prepared to defend you agressively.

When faced with a need to defend your best interests in a court of law, you need an aggressive, informed, licensed and an experienced lawyer that is not only easily approachable, but also genuinely interested in defending you aggressively.

As you may already know, Defense Lawyer or Defense Attorney is defined as - the lawyer representing the defendant. In other words, an attorney representing a defendant in a criminal or civil case is commonly known as a defense lawyer or a defense attorney.. In the event the accused/defendant is unable to retain/employ a criminal defense attorney, (s)he is represented by a court appointed defense lawyer from the Public Defender's Office for defending the accused's/defendant's interest in criminal proceedings. Therefore, in criminal proceedings, the term defense attorney refers to the attorney representing the accused.

If you have been charged with a crime, you should consider retaining a defense lawyer immediately. As stated above, if you are not in a position to afford to hire a criminal defense lawyer, a pro bono lawyer (also known as a public defender) will be appointed for you by the judge.

Here are some helpful tips on narrowing down your search for a competent defense attorney:

  • Check out defense lawyers' credentials,
  • Check out defense lawyer's professional affiliations,
  • Check out his/her reputation as well as references from former clients,
  • Verify his/her good standing with the local bar association, as well as with National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers,
  • Interview a few defense lawyers specializing in the type of law related to your case,
  • Considering that most criminal defense lawyers charge by the hour, or require you to pre-pay a set fee, you really want to be absolutely clear about his/her fees as well as any other charges (court fees, etc.) that you will be held responsible for.
  • Carefully examine terms specified in his/her retainer agreement before you sign it.
  • Most importantly, you may not want to retain a criminal defense lawyer that is not in good terms with the local District Attorney's (DA's) office. If you do, you are going to have a hard time getting a better plea bargain from DA's office.
  • Use your common sense and gut instincts to evaluate the remaining lawyers on your list. You’ll want to be comfortable with the lawyer you hire. You will also want to choose the lawyer who you think will do the best job for you.

It is important that you retain a competent defense attorney to represent you in the court of law. If you need help with your defense lawyer search, do your research, ask around, and/or let us know.
